Share resources, discuss, comment, collaborate on how to implement the Daily 5 and CAFE in your classrooms!!

11/8/13- Another week has flown by. The two days off had me rushing to fit everything in. I think using some of the routines outlined in the Daily 5 book are going to be criticial in my implementation of this program. My reason for choosing to start the Daily 5 is to be able to provide activities that facilitate cooperation among the children in the classroom. I believe that if we can teach the students specifically how we want them to behave, take the time to model what it looks like and sounds like to work in groups, that we can find success in engaging students to be self-motivated learners. Its not going to be easy, but I'm up for the challenge.

Read to Self

Read to Someone-(or Partner Reading)

In order to promote fluency, and listening skills, I have begun a program called Quick Reads. Some aspects of the program are similar to Corrective Reading, however there is more of a Comprehension component in addition to the Fluency. Students read to the passage 3 times. Once sliently, again to their partner aloud, and a final timed reading. They take turns, then log the number of words read in a minute in their logs. After that they answer a few comprehension questions.
